My Team
Jamie Urrutia AMFT
My name is Jamie Urrutia, and I am an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (AMFT). I work with teens, adults, and couples navigating relationship challenges, anxiety, struggles with self-worth, and the lasting effects of complex trauma and attachment wounds.
Many of the people I work with carry a quiet but persistent sense that something is fundamentally wrong with them or that they are somehow different from everyone else. They often feel disconnected from themselves or from the people they love, and they have usually been carrying this weight for a long time. I believe there is meaning behind these experiences, even when they feel confusing, painful, or difficult to understand.
The ways we come to see ourselves, and the ways we learn to protect ourselves, are shaped by our relationships and experiences, especially the painful ones. What can look like a flaw or weakness often turns out to be an understandable response to difficult circumstances.
My approach is warm, relational, and grounded in genuine curiosity. I am less interested in asking what is wrong with a person and more interested in understanding what happened to them and how their experiences have shaped the ways they think, feel, and relate to others. In my experience, something shifts when a person feels truly understood. From that place of safety and authentic connection, people often begin to relate to themselves with greater compassion and discover that they are far more understandable than they once believed.
I received a Master of Science in Counseling Psychology from Dominican University of California and a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Santa Clara University. My work is informed by person-centered, attachment-based, psychodynamic, and family systems perspectives. With couples, I draw from Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and Gottman-informed approaches. Whether working with a teen, adult, couple, or family, my goal is to help clients better understand themselves, strengthen their relationships, and move toward a more authentic and fulfilling life.
